For me, the color and lighting of the image creates a soft, positive tone. The way that you captured the " Made in USA" emblem signifies a sense of pride, also associated with positive feelings. By zooming in on the lighter and focusing on the details, the "reader" becomes more aware of the finer qualities of the lighter that we wouldn't normally pay attention to. The transmission modes of the piece are both representational and mechanical. The physical artifact (postcard) serves as the representational through the medium it was created. The on-screen version serves as the mechanical through the way it is viewed, on the internet. The noise that influenced my interpretation was in part the associations that come along with a lighter in terms of what it is used for in our culture. Many people find pleasure in smoking, or fires in general. Though as with any image, the way it is depicted could change this meaning entirely.

I agree with you interpretation. Yes I focused in on the logo to, not only show the exact brand, but also to emphasize patronage. By showing this well known logo/trademark (ZIPPO) I utilized the ethose appeal, (credible.) Yes, I intended for the viewer to be comforted by the lighting and the image quality. I wanted to show the softer side of Zippo.
