There are elements in both approaches that are worth taking and combing together. 1. In top one the icons are integrated INTO the map. Good. 2. In bottom one there is an additional level of information (i.e. text). A must is to use real content in the piece due Monday.
Do map the objects in location as you are doing in either of the two examples.
In addition, you need to make a comparison between the icons. Establish a gradient of more to less (could be importance of manner, could be time it takes to do it, could be cost, could be level of cleanliness, could be anything). Then ORDER the icons according to this gradient. There are many ways to do this (e.g. hierarchy on the page or scale)
